Fall is officially coming to a close and the holiday season is in full swing, bringing with it thoughts of cheer, hopes for a White Christmas and plans to spend quality time with loved ones.
Some revelers, however, may be looking to get away for a restful winter vacation that still offers plenty of local shops to visit, exciting scenery to explore and fun cold-weather attractions to experience, from ski resorts with twisting slopes to cabins nestled along a snow-capped mountain.
According to a list compiled by Reader's Digest, the "best winter destination" in all of Tennessee is Knoxville. This popular city was praised for being the best of both worlds, offering just enough city life and access to the sprawling country to give you plenty of options to explore on your winter getaway.
Here's what Reader's Digest had to say about the best winter destination in the entire state:
"This city in east Tennessee near the Great Smoky Mountains is perfect for those who want a little city and a little country. Knoxville offers arts and culture like the Knoxville Museum of Art and the historic Tennessee Theater. For those craving outdoor adventures, Knoxville is only an hour away from Tennessee's only ski resort, Ober Gatlinburg, and the Great Smoky Mountains, where visitors can experience winter hiking and spectacular (leaf-free) views."
