Memphis Residents Asked To Conserve Water Amid Harsh Winter Weather

As winter weather continues to impact the area, Memphis Light, Gas and Water has asked its customers to conserve water. MLGW customers have already been asked to conserve water until Monday afternoon (February 22), but the company is also expected to announce a precautionary boil water advisory on Thursday (February 18). It is unclear how long the advisory will remain in effect.

According to WMC, a boil water advisory is required by the Tennessee Department of Energy and Conservation when water pressure is less than 20 gallons per square inch. The heavy impacts of the winter storms that have hit the area over the last week have sent the water pressure below the marker in certain areas around the Mid-South.

Collierville and Germantown residents won't be included in the boil water advisory as they have their own water system independent of MLGW, WMC reports.

In addition to reduced water pressure, MLGW said there is also a reduction in the reservoir levels at several pumping stations, according to FOX 13.

Memphis and regions across western Tennessee have been hit repeatedly by significant winter weather over the past week. On Tuesday, Memphis declared a State of Emergency ahead of another winter storm that was expected to add to the ice and snow that had already accumulated in the region.
