Over Half Of Registered Voters Cast Ballots During Tennessee's Early Voting

Early voting in Tennessee has officially ended and numbers show that more than half of the state's registered voters have already cast their ballots ahead of Election Day on Tuesday.

By end of early voting on Thursday, 2,280,767 Tennesseans, or 51%, had voted either in person or by mail in the 2020 general election. State records show that six counties, Davidson, Cheatham, Rutherford, Williamson, Wilson, and Loudon, had more voters cast a ballot during early voting than in the entirety of the 2016 general election.

"These record numbers demonstrate voter confidence in the hard work of election officials across the state," Secretary of State Tre Hargett said in a press release. "County election commissions across the state have worked diligently to administer a safe, sensible and responsible election during early voting and we will see the same thing on Election Day."

Tennesseans who have yet to cast a ballot can make their voices heard on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3. Read up on what to expect, and what to bring, prior to heading to the polls. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day. To find your polling location, visit GoVoteTN.

Voters wishing to return absentee ballots should not mail them but deliver them to a postal worker at their county's main post office. Ballots must be turned in by 3 p.m. on Election Day. According to Tennessee law, ballots that arrive at the election commission after polls close on Election Day will not be counted.
