Early Voting Ends In Tennessee Thursday: Locations, Info

Thursday (October 29) is the final day to vote early in the state of Tennessee. Polls will close Thursday night and reopen on Tuesday, November 3 for Election Day.

The Volunteer State has reportedly already set a record for early voting this week.

Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett confirmed 1,808,546 registered voters have already cast their vote for the upcoming November 3, 2020 as of the close of the polls on Monday, WCYB reports.

That total exceeded the previous record of 1,689,989 set during the 2016 election by 118,557. The increase comes as Tennessee continues to see an increase in COVID-19 cases, which may have led to many voters opting for mail-in voting or early voting in-person to avoid long Election Day lines.

"This election, Tennesseans are engaged and are taking advantage of the convenience of early voting," Hargett said. "In the final days of early voting as well as on Election Day, Tennesseans can cast their votes in a clean, safe, and secure environment."

Tennesseans registered to vote can vote early in the State and Federal Primary and County General election from Wednesday, October 14 to Thursday, October 29. Polls will be open from Monday to Saturday during that span.

What to bring

Per TN.gov:

  • You will need to show photo ID to vote in Tennessee. Acceptable forms include (can be expired): Tennessee driver's license; US passport; photo ID issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security; photo ID issued by the federal or Tennessee state government; US military photo ID; or Tennessee handgun carry permit with your photo. College student IDs are not acceptable.
  • If you're a first-time voter who registered by mail, you will also need to show proof of residence to vote. Acceptable forms include: a current photo ID (unexpired); or a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or other government document that shows your name and address.
  • Voters without ID: If you are unable to provide ID, you will be able to vote a provisional ballot. You will then have two (2) business days after Election Day to return to the election commission office to show a valid photo ID. Upon returning to the election commission office, the voter will sign an affidavit and a copy of the voter's photo ID will be made to be reviewed by the counting board.
